Our Story
A journey of finding my way back to making — from architecture and teaching to motherhood, entrepreneurship, and eventually, hand embroidery. Studio Nool is a space where I explore what can happen when the quiet, deliberate act of making meets contemporary design.
The Genesis of Studio Nool
I didn't set out to become an embroidery artist. I studied architecture, taught for a few years, became a mother, and later built a small clothing business. When that chapter came to an end, I found myself looking for something that felt truly mine. I found it in embroidery.
What began as a personal challenge to make something every day slowly became a creative practice — and eventually, Studio Nool. Today, Studio Nool is my way of exploring hand embroidery through art, DIY experiences, and thoughtful collaborations. It is still a work in progress, just like I am.

With a background in architecture and teaching,Bharathi Kannamma brings a design-led perspective to hand embroidery. Her work is rooted in the patience of making by hand, while exploring how embroidery can find a place in contemporary life. Studio Nool is her ongoing exploration of craft, design and the possibilities of making. Making slowly. Learning constantly. One stitch at a time.

The Creative Process
01. Ideas
Every piece begins with an idea. From sketches and visual experiments to choosing a composition, colour and stitch, I take time to understand what I want the work to become before I begin stitching.
02. Stitching
Then, slowly, it takes shape by hand. Embroidery is a patient process. Stitch by stitch, the drawing becomes texture, form and rhythm. I enjoy leaving room for the hand to be visible in the finished work.
03. Sharing
Made to be experienced, learned and lived with. Some ideas become original artworks. Others become DIY kits, workshops or collaborations — different ways of inviting people into the world of making.
